The Old Chapel Textile Centre in Newbury, home of the National Needlework Archive, offer courses, workshops and exhibitions in sewing, haberdashery, needlecraft, textiles, embroidery, cross stitch, quilting and textile art. Our shop carries an extensive range of all needlework and sewing products including fabric, threads, wool, zips and patterns. We have an archive of historic textiles and patterns and are home to The Country Wife mural.
Activity Saturdays at The Old Chapel Textile Centre
Activity Saturdays 2024. Free demonstrations at 10.30am
On the first Saturday of each month during our open season The Old Chapel Textile Centre hosts a free sewing or craft demonstration at 10.30am. Generally lasting for half an hour, the demonstration is a great way of learning a new skill while having a coffee with friends. We try to theme the demonstrations to our current exhibitions or national events and encourage you to extend your creativity in these easily accessible, free, craft ‘bites’
2nd March: Loving Earth linked mindfulness hand stitching.
6th April: Needlepoint event.
4th May: Open Studios linked bag making skills.
1st June: Quilt technique.
6th July: Tips on sewing with lace, net & voile fabrics.
3rd August: Free Motion machine applique.
7th September: Scandi themed hand embroidery.
5th October: Using specialist embroidery & embellisher/felting machines.
