National Needlework Archive

The Old Chapel Textile Centre in Newbury, home of the National Needlework Archive, offer courses, workshops and exhibitions in sewing, haberdashery,  needlecraft, textiles, embroidery, cross stitch, quilting and textile art. Our shop carries an extensive range of all needlework and sewing products including fabric, threads, wool, zips and patterns. We have an archive of historic textiles and patterns and are home to The Country Wife mural.

All workshops require pre-booking. Payment can be made in cash, cheque, or by credit card at the Centre; or by cheque in the post (made payable to National Needlework Archive); or credit card by phoning the Centre on 01635 38740.

FEBRUARY


Saturday 1st February

FELTING WORKSHOP.

£40 incl. materials.  

Have fun felting.  Use the wet felting technique to make a picture, needlefelt a brooch, and have a go at felting using a machine embellisher.

Learn two different ways to produce vari-coloured threads by rainbow dyeing. The results are unpredictable but definitely unique and tailored to your desired palette. Use for hand or machine embroidery, braids, tassels or even kitting and crochet.

BLOCK PRINTING

An introduction to the art of block printing.  Test different layout techniques on paper using a variety of wooden printing blocks and fabric paints. Then print your design on natural calico.
