Workshop List June – December 2010
Thursday 24th June – ‘By the Seaside’ Hilary Jenkins Make good use of small scraps of fabric to make one or more small textile collage pieces with a seaside theme – sea birds, beach huts, crabs, starfish etc. The result could be mounted to form a greeting card, or picture, or several could form an attractive hanging. Involves simple hand stitching: suitable for all abilities. 2pm – 4pm £10
Saturday 31st July – ‘Be Inspired’ – Millinery Workshop Jean Hutchings. After a demonstration you will be able to create your own fascinator for a special occasion, or just for fun! 10am – 1pm £15
Saturday 14th August – Make your Own Lovable Felt Teddy. For Children with Accompanying Adult. 10am – 1pm £7.50
Saturday 21st August – Make a Special Outfit for your Felt Teddy. For Children with Accompanying Adult. 10am – 1pm £7.50 (Book both classes for £12)
Wednesday 18th August – Needle-felt Teddy. Janet Bacon Miniature dry felt teddy bear with jointed arms and legs. A collector’s bear. 10am – 4pm £25
Wednesday 15th September – Beginner’s Patchwork and Quilt Day. Learn basic techniques, terminology, methods of cutting, hand and machine piecing, finishing. £25 Once youv’e got the basics you could follow on by joining our regular quilt classes, or our afternoon Quilt Club.
Saturday 25th September – Colouring Threads. Hilary Jenkins Create unique space dyed threads for embroidery, appliqué or collage. Simple technique with easily obtainable materials and equipment. 10am – 1pm £15
Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd October. 2 day workshop – ‘Breaking the Rules - combining canvaswork and applied fabrics' Wendy Dolan 10am – 4pm both days. This workshop will explore techniques which combine canvas work and applied fabrics. Designs will be transferred onto canvas which will be painted with bold colours. Fabrics will then be applied to areas of the design to create an exciting combination of textures. Canvas stitches will then be worked to create dynamic, colourful and textured feature elements. Suitable for all levels of ability. £80 for the 2 days
Saturday 16th October – Open House Taster Sessions. 10am – 4pm Come and see demonstrations of many textile crafts. You might find something new you could follow up in one of our ongoing classes. Changing demos all day – All Free!
Wednesday 27th October – Mixed Media Books – Isobel Hall. Renowned textile artist and author Isobel Hall with take you through her techniques of creating beautiful sculptured and embroidered books including decorated spines and integral bookmarks. Scrumptious! 10am – 4pm £40
Tuesday 9th November – Fabulous Bag Workshop. details to follow
Friday 26th November – Book Care and Repair Day. The NNA has an extensive library of books and magazines to care for. Come and learn how to clean and care for your books and how to make simple yet strong repairs.
Thursday 2nd December – Fabric Christmas Boxes. Make lovely festive Christmas boxes as presents, or as extra special wrapping for presents. Colour co-ordinated with your gift they make lovely, long lasting keepsakes. 10am – 4pm £25
