Access to facilities at The Old Chapel Textile Centre
The Old Chapel is a single storey former non-denominational chapel built in 1957 which is accessible to disabled and less mobile visitors.
Parking on the site is generally available within approximately 30m of the building. Although normally easily available, disabled parking can be pre-booked within this car park. Passengers can be dropped off within approximately 10m of the building.
The building can be approached from the roadway either from the north side, which involves descending two steps from the roadway to the pavement, or from the south side which is flat with the exception of a non-ramped road kerb.
Access to the building is via double opening doors, both to the front and side of the building.
There are two steps up to the doors at the front of the building.
The side door is approached via a part-paved side path. The side door has a very low step for which a small ramp is available. Wheelchairs and scooters enter the building using this door.
Once inside the building the majority of the rooms, including the main exhibition area and the classroom area, are on ground level.
The door between the gift shop/reception area and the main hall is a double door.
The library has a single sized door opening.
The tea area is on the level.
A toilet for disabled visitors is available within the modern toilet facilities.
The Country Wife studio is up two steps. The picture can, however, often be viewed from the lower level through clear glass panels. Please call to check if an adjacent exhibition will obscure the view of the picture from the lower level at the time of your proposed visit. The picture may also be moved within the studio from time to time, depending on the work being carried out on it, which may affect viewing. Items of interest from the picture are usually available to be seen on the lower level.
